Reboot

Hey look, Norin got rebooted! 

While I've had moderate success with both Hyrule: Total War and Star Fox: Event Horizon, pushing my original IP's such as Sigma has been, quite simply, a nightmare.

Sigma was picked up by three different publishers over the course of two years, being dropped by each of them only shortly after alpha stages of their involvement. The killing blow for Sigma came about in December of 2013, where support for the Fleet Ops engine that was being used was abandoned by their team in favor of starting a completely new RTS engine with no release date or rough estimation of its availability. After desperately struggling to find a suitable engine for some time, I eventually put Sigma to rest and released a final version on Fleet Ops, opting to focus on my other work. Pretty much no one noticed and it seemed everyone was happy with my other games. I've not touched my magnum opus strategy game ever since.

Recently I was talking with morphiul and the idea of just completely rebooting Sigma from scratch with a different 80's sci-fi tone and more surreal Brazil like premise was brought up. I thought the idea sounded like fun, so despite the complete lack of a suitable engine or resources I decide to start rethinking Sigma from the ground up: everything from gameplay mechanics to aesthetic. Hopefully one day I'll find a suitable engine, maybe even finally a stable team of individuals who won't bail out to bring this strategy game that's been stuck in my head for well over a decade to life. Because I certainly am not venturing into the video game industry again. It's a complete nightmare: the developers, the journalists, and the consumers have somehow turned what is supposed to be the coolest entertainment industry into a veteran's only club, a gamers are wild animals hunting ground, a social justice warzone, and a minimal effort tragedy. I guess reality is the ultimate reaper of dreams. Oh well, alternative time!
