Hyrule: Total War Factions by UndyingNephalim Hyrule: Total War Factions by UndyingNephalim
INFO, UPDATES, AND PLAYABLE DEMOS CAN BE FOUND HERE: [link]

If my last submission was not a hint enough, I've decided to shift my direction and head back into the Zelda universe one last time. I feel as though over the years I've been distracted on what my original goal was with two Zelda RPG games and an oversized comic. For years all I have ever wanted more then anything was an epic scaled Zelda game, in particular an RTS. I've been very confident that Nintendo would never create an RTS, and with the huge step into kiddy-choo-choo-lala land of the recent Zelda games I'm fairly sure an "Epic" scaled Zelda game is faaaaar out of the question. Well, sometimes in life you just have to do things yourself, and after years of practice, learning, and lots of head-desks after hearing of each new Zelda game announcements, I finally have the power to make my one desire come true.

I shall bring you all Hyrule: Total War

It's going to use the same engine that Creative Assembly's Medieval 2: Total War uses, so if you have that game naturally you'll feel right at home with this (as well as being able to play this for free). If you've never heard of Medieval 2: Total War, I hiiiiiighly suggest buying it and the expansion packs immediately (it's one of the best RTS games ever made). Hyrule: Total War will be structured in a similar manner. Chronologically it takes place over several hundred years as you watch and help develop Hyrule's history, culture, and ultimately its fate depending on what faction you choose to lead. This storyline will be rather freeform and up to the player to decide. In addition to that though there will be a concrete series of scripted battles that you can reenact depicting critical events in Hyrule's history (For instance the massive battle between the Kokiri and Gohma in my comic book for those that have read). Last but not least there will be multiplayer, where up to eight players can unleash their huge armies on each other for supremacy. I'll be modeling and crafting each faction in order starting with the Hylians, so stay tuned for more in for and reveals down the road.

Edit 2-23-11: Moblins revealed as a playable faction

Edit 4-20-11: Sheikah revealed as a playable faction

Edit 5-3-11: Darknut Legion revealed as a playable faction

Edit 5-7-11: Lizalfos revealed as a playable faction

Edit 5-10-11: Added a political map, revealed the Labrynna Regime, Fairies of Tarm, Kingdom of Ikana, Forces of Twilight, Order of Wizzrobe, and Oocca Factions.

Will the very final version of Hyrule TW still allow us to play as the emerging factions in the campaign, or will they be custom only?

Well, thanks for the updates, you two! I just recently submitted a fan picture as a fan of both Total War and the OTHER popular franchise made by Sega: monguin.deviantart.com/art/Mer…

That would be awesome. Since Sega distributed Medieval 2, perhaps Sonic the Hedgehog could make a cameo.

Just saying.

Medieval 2 also has lots of positive reviews and critical acclaims, my own included.

Not exactly. The closest thing to a weapon having a bonus against anything would be spears being effective at stopping a cavalry charge, but thats it. Theres no magic bonus from fighting an axe-wielder with your sword.

I've had this in my favorites for ages, but I recently remembered it because of a conversation I had recently with a friend. He plots campaigns for Dungeons and Dragons incessantly, and the other day said to me. "You know what would be an awesome campaign? The Legend of Zelda."

That brought my mind right back here, since your version of Hyrule has always seemed more applicable to that sort of thing. (Read; inclusive of all possible material.) So now I'm wondering if scattered around your gallery or weaseled away on some other website, is a breakdown of its ins and outs that one might use in fleshing out something of that sort.

I've actually wanted to make a Zelda game in the mold of D&D. I might try to do so one day if I ever have time.

Actually, I imagined Link to be the best D&D player.

Also, keep in mind Total War is linked with Sega and has been met with much critical acclaim.

Nice bravery approach to you. Oh. You just got private mail at youtube. I heard that Link's student, Pikachu from pokemon, also tackled the strategy genre but on turn based united with Samurai Warriors series. But I got a feeling that your's can outrival the latest pokemon spin off called Pokemon Coquest. But we could use some of your opinions on what Pokemon conquest would be in an RTS game form.

But surely, I salute you for your bravery to give the zelda series your DIY persona.

Awesome! Just wondering , is it hard to install this mod or whatever you do to put it in the game hard? I don't have Medievel II: Total War Kingdoms but I'm considering buying so I can play it as Hyrule: Total War (;

It's not hard to install, I made a self-installer for it. If you are using the Steam version you'll need to take an extra step though.

I have some questions. First, how do you believe that Steam would be a problem for this mod? M2tw Kingdoms doesn't need Steam to work. I'll ask more later.

It works with the Steam version of Medieval Kingdoms but there's an extra step needed to get it to work: [link]

Steam version? You mean that this mod won't work unless you have downloaded medieval 2 via Steam? And about that link I found it on the forums, but I don't know how to change install directory.

It will work without Steam, I actually recommend the non-steam version (but that's just because I like having disks).

I have Steam and some games in it, but medieval 2 isn't one of them, for I too have it on disk. Does that mean that those extra steps must still be done?

The disc version does not need any extra steps. Just run the installers and it should run fine.

Why did you have to split the forces of twilight in two pieces? As If I really would care about it, for they have only two heroes, but Midna has far less units at her command, which means that probably nearly all twilight players have to choose Zant.

In custom battles units for both sides are available as one faction. The split only occurs in the campaign in which case the Twili are not playable.

Any chance of the Oocca being playable outside of the campaign? I do enjoy creating seemingly unwinnable situations in custom battle and testing myself.

They might show up in Quick Battles but I feel they might be too overpowered for custom battles and Multiplayer. We'll see though.

The thing is with custom battles is that they are specifically designed to give players the opportunity to utilize factions that are unavailable in the campaign. I would agree with you for multiplayer, but sometimes all I want to do is to blast the ever-living fuck out of another army without even trying. So at the very least, make them an option for custom battles.

You'll need to buy Medieval 2 Total War and the Kingdoms Expansion Pack in order to play the game (you could also get Medieval 2: Gold Edition). I can't give away the needed files with my Zelda game sadly or else I'll get sued.

Perhaps. Still, I believe both commanders have pretty same plans. no matter which "Ganon" wins, the ones who lose most are the hylians. Some other race like Kokiri, howewer would instead ally with hylians.

Excellent. But two questions: Do you write edit or something here when the full version is released? And, how could you give the moblins and the gerudo the exact same commander? (Two different forms, but still the same person.)

When the full version is done it will be announced on my DA.

I presume by commander you refer to Ganon and Ganondorf? If so I consider them two completely separate entities. Canonically Ganon was basically a manifestation born from Ganondorf's hatred and the Triforce of Power at the end of Ocarina of Time. In this game though it's the other way around, Ganon basically created Ganondorf as a means of resurrecting himself should he be killed.
